Blackslash have been knocking around for over a decade now, and this is their fourth album of retro-sounding Heavy Metal—though it has to be admitted they were doing the whole NWOTHM thing before it was cool again. This is very German-sounding stuff, with the heavy crunch you expect from that country, and Blackslash also have a kick of hard rock attitude and flash in their playing and lyrics. Vocalist Clemens Haas has a gritty voice and reminds me a bit of Martin Steene or Jonny Lindqvist, though not as good as those comparisons would suggest. The riffing is clean and catchy, the production is crispy without being too glossy, and the songs are all good, even if none of them are really first-rate. This is an album you can slap on and it will show you a good time all the way through. |
