Four years already since Deathhammer's last black/thrash assault. Electric Warfare sees them fighting the good fight like before. It's not too original but it's fun. Lots of nods to the old school and "new school" alike, the album is quite varied despite the genre usually being rather one-dimensional (in a good way). A lot of this stuff reminds me of mid-80s raw, brutal thrash that some would later come to call "proto-black metal", and also some more recent stuff that reminds me of Sweden's Bewitched. Well, maybe not all that recent since the stuff in question already dates back to the late '90s. I can't say there's anything here that I remember once the album is over, but while it's on you get a lot of cool guitar work, some screams that are bound to get the crowd joining in live, and lots of speed to get you headbanging like a maniac and keeping your chiropractor's bank account happy. Cool stuff. |
