After their millenia-long absence from our world, the two gods who formed Doublegeddon released their demo, Two Geddons, in 2018. I was fortunate enough to unearth it years after it was buried and largely ignored, and I worked to spread their gospel of fucking Heavy Metal at that time. Now they have returned and brought forth a full album of their holy work, and it is my duty as their self-appointed prophet to proclaim that the gods have made Metal, and that it is good. Much like the demo that came before it, Geddon Dangerous is a workout in muscular old-school Metal that's absolutely drenched in glorious '80s cheese. The riffs are pounding and epic whether they're blazing out of the speakers or stomping through them, the production is vintage and rough, and the vocals are energetic and echoey, all of which is exactly what you need to pull this off. A lot of bands that go for an epic sound often end up being very serious, but Doublegeddon pull it off while writing a song called "On the Wings of a Dinosaur" that includes the lyric "We will fuck you up", and if that doesn't recall the spirit of the Golden Age of Metal in its purest form, I don't know what does. I can't say any one song on here stands out, but they're all damn solid examples of how much fun Metal is supposed to be. Recommended. |
