Here's a 36-minute lesson in heaviness. Succumb to Rot kicks off like someone is crushing your face with his foot and keeps it up all the way to the end. There's quite a bit of speedy, brutal death metal to be found here, but the most interesting parts are where to let off the speed a little and concentrate on just being crushingly heavy. Where the album shines, however, is in the atmosphere: Dark, evil, malevolent, like it's straight out of one of those horror movies where suspense is king. If you listen to a lot of death metal before, musically there's nothing really new here, but it's the way Corspsessed have put these songs together and especially the nightmare-inducing delivery that sets the album apart. Addictive. |
