Black/Thrash power trios have a long history (well, this seems to be a power duo, but same thing) as the stripped-down lineup matches the similarly stripped-down approach. Music like this is supposed to be fast, ripping, and aggressive. Disembody do pretty well at this, though not doing stellar at any one. There is a lot of energy in this, and the riffs are pretty good, if not up to the level of bands like Athor, Sauron, or Twilight Hammer. The guitar sound could be better, with more bite, and the songs could have more identity. The vocals are pure Tom Angelripper, and on the whole Sodom is a pretty good touchstone for what this band is about and what they sound like. A promising debut. |
