This is some really good atmospheric black metal that we don't see coming out of France as much as we did some 20-odd years ago, but it has been making a comeback. The vibe is dark as hell and some of the songs are very melancholic, though not quite touching "depressive" territory. Lots of speed where it's needed, all without sacrificing that sorrowful atmosphere that engulfs the album throughout. There's a feeling of pain and torture that's impossible to ignore and it's like someone is twisting a knife in your gut at times. The vocals are a little in the back, which just makes the atmosphere even more effective and some of the screams are downright torturous. This is an album that's worth listening to over and over. |
