This is apparently the first EP of a trilogy, centred around the trendy theme of the end of the world. Well, not so much trendy as "actual," if you've been following the news. Ah! Anyway... This is a little diverse for the length but the EP doesn't sound too disjointed, though there's a bit of a clash between old-school thrashy heavy metal and more modern heavy metal with kind of screamo vocals—not too much of that, so it's tolerable even for close-minded metalheads like yours truly. I would like not have downloaded the promo if I had sampled "Black Rain," likely the most modernish song here, but it's actually not bad. Overall the EP packs some punch, is filled with melody delivered through some crunchy metal and has a lot of catchy bits. It won't revolutionize anything and may be a little too over the place for its own good, but it's good enough to make me look forward to the rest of the trilogy. |
