I'm not normally one for singles, but when UK act Misophonia's latest one hit my inbox with the tag of Symphonic Melodic Death Metal, I was curious enough to see what they did with that sound. Didn't end up being much, as it turns out. The only remotely symphonic thing here is some classical acoustic guitar that pops up in spots, particularly the instrumental "Sorrows of Yesterday Part 1" and a brief variation of the main riff of the title track at the end, while the rest of it is mid-paced Melodic Death Metal that's mostly the first part and just barely the last. Despite there being four tracks on here, three of them are versions of the title track, which include the aforementioned acoustic variation and a live console version which is just the same song with slightly fewer vocal effects and a marginally better sound. The title track itself is a collection of uninspired melodies, crowded verses with flat, moany vocals, and a super weak production that lacks bite and clarity, and that's about all there is to it. I know I haven't said too much about the actual songs, but there really isn't much to say here, as the music presented has very little going on, and what it does have is not very interesting. I was hoping for this at least to be entertainingly overblown and pompous, but while it's certainly the latter, El Silencio Será Eterno is oddly small and restrained despite the grand intent. Skip it. |
