Debut for this Canadian band, who are definitely taking some sounds from the Cascadian school, but also have a very fresh sound of their own. This is apparently a two-man project by some guys from a band called Wormwitch, and it's a very impressive first effort. This does draw on Cascadian sounds like Wolves in the Throne Room, but also adds some epic stylings that remind me of Saor or Falls of Rauros. Another band I hear in this mix is Sear Bliss with the layered melodies and the sometimes startlingly clear riffs that really stand out and make the songs memorable. Overall, a really strong album of Black Metal for those looking for something a cut above the usual imitators. |
