Second album for this Swedish band with an unwieldy name, though I would not be surprised if you told me it's pronounced "Marduk", because there is a definite vibe here that reminds me of that archetypical Swedish band—the old Marduk, Those of the Unlight or Nightwing Marduk. You get a lot of speed, aggressive riffing, and raspy vocals that edge into Black/Thrash territory. This has a bit more shade to it than that comparison would imply, and there is a touch of a more epic sound here and there, but just a touch. I like how the songwriting is relentlessly atonal and unfriendly, though I do wish the guitar sound was a bit harsher. A solid album. |
