This is a Russian band who play a variety of Doom/Death that is pretty far from the standard, being more in like with the kinds of gothic sounds that came out of the US scene in the aughts–bands like Nicodemus or Novembers Doom. The base is heavy, slow guitars, with some rather tight drums. But there is a very melodic layer of keys and string instruments. Vocalist/main composer Terra Teratos is definitely working a gloomy, more experimental vibe, with whispered rasps, harsher screams, and moody clean singing. Overall, I like the atmosphere, and the heavy riffing is solid, but the songwriting is kind of shapeless, and needed more work overall. You won’t turn this off, but it’s not that exciting. |
