Dementia 13 are an old-school Death Metal act from Portugal who released this way back in 2015. Surprising no one, Ways of Enclosure consists of that school of ‘80s American Death Metal most associated with the likes of Death and Massacre, with a kick of Bolt Thrower when they slow down a bit. I could probably stop there, since they don’t do anything particularly new with it, but they have solid performances and songwriting to pull it all off convincingly, whether it be Álvaro Fernandes’ sharp, crisp riff work supported by Marco Silva’s enjoyable leads or Nuno Lima’s standard by well-done death grunts. Topped off with horror movie sound clips to really sell it, and you get an unabashed celebration of the old ways of American Death Metal, no more, no less. I can’t fault them for that, and if you’re a fan of the style, neither can you. |
