Debut album from this Finnish Black Metal band who sound more or less much exactly how you would expect just from those facts alone. This is a one-man band, but doesn’t really sound like it. The production is pretty solid, with a good bite to the guitars and a lot of layers and space in the mix. The vocals are mixed a bit upfront for my taste, but overall this is aiming for that second wave sound like classic Emperor or Satyricon, and hitting it fairly well. I would like if there were fewer vocals on this, as it would let me hear the music rather than just the screeching, but the real weakness is that the songwriting is never really better than average. This is a decent listen, but it’s all been done before. |
