Exfiltrator are a young band made up of one guitarist from Germany and the rest from the United States, and that’s about all I can tell you about them. They certainly got somebody’s attention to get their debut EP a physical release, and I can kind of see why. Death/Thrash is the name of the game here, only they work in the more complex end of the pool with smoldering musicianship that’s as tight and technical as it is savage. That makes them sound awesome, and on the Schizophrenia-esque title track and their cover of Witchery’s "The Howling," they kind of are, but while their playing is top-notch, the songwriting suffers from not being all that memorable. You can certainly note some superb guitar work, and it has the right attitude and energy, but there aren’t really any strong hooks to be found, making it all meld together in a blaze of sound and fury. For some, that may be enough, but to me it just feels like there’s something missing that could make this band so much better if they ever found it. Still, anyone in the market for something along the lines of Morbid Saint and Demolition Hammer will want to give this a look, and maybe by the end of it the band will figure it out and make something killer by the next release.
