Ouch. Here we have an album of perfectly good Heavy/Power Metal, well produced, well played, and adequately written, if no better than that. What we also have is a vocalist who should never have been allowed to record. Jesse Yrjola seems to be a good orchestrator, but his vocals are terrible. He has a decent tone and a lot of power, but he seemingly cannot stay on key, and his voice is mixed waaaay up front, so every off note is painfully shoved right into your skull. The music sounds fine, but then the vocals come in and you wince, and you keep wincing, because the pain never stops. A decent band who might go somewhere if they got a singer who could stay on a note. Like, any note. |
