I'm always thrilled when a new Witchery album comes out. They were one of the first bands I checked out when I started getting into more extreme metal (i.e., anything harsher the heavy, power and thrash) more than 22 years ago. To this day I'm still more excited by their earlier output, and that remains true with Nightside. I really like the album, but as far as blackened thrash goes, it's pretty much standard stuff and, nowadays, unlike when the band started, there's so much more out there in the genre. With that said, it's still Witchery, with the experience that comes with it. This is all really solid, often quite catchy, and while only a couple of songs left a lasting impression (especially "Don't Burn the Witch"), there aren't any bad songs here. The band kept the album to a decent length, not overstaying their welcome, and it's a headbanging good time through and through. Their rawer, even "funnier" approach of yesteryears is mostly gone, but Witchery still know how to deliver the goods.
