I didn't really expect this from this oddly named band and album and I'm surprised I've never heard of them considering they've had quite a few releases since forming in 2005. This is raw black metal that finds it roots in the '90s Scandinavian and French scenes, though what popped most often in my head was early Burzum, especially when it comes to the guitars and atmosphere. It's nowhere near a copycat, but it's hard not to think of the infamous Norwegian act when listening to several of these songs. There's a bit of second-wave Swedish black metal here as well, and, of course, the hey days of the French scene, albeit maybe a little rawer. Quite an addictive album. |
