This turned out to be quite different and more fun than I expected. Majestic Mass play a blackened raw heavy metal that loosely reminds me of Wizzard (note the two "z"), though that one was a little cleaner. The vocals are harsh and raspy, sometimes a little whispery and come off surprisingly melodic. The music is hard to pin down. It's kind of catchy and melodic, but also very dark and a little occult-like, sometimes giving a vibe not unlike that of some rock and heavy rock from the late '60s and '70s, kind of creepy-sounding but also cool, catchy and memorable. I've been getting a kick out of this album since the very first listen and wish it was a little longer, so hopefully Majestic Mass have more of this in the oven. |
