Dark Psychosis is the project of Sean Peters, here known as Xaphan, and it's clearly dedicated to recreating the first wave of Black Metal sound pioneered by the likes of Bathory and Venom. Sadly, despite having a few albums beforehand and decades of experience, he fails to catch that spirit in any meaningful way. The playing is sloppy and amateurish, which is on par with his influences, but where they were redefining Metal and doing so with energy and gusto, Dark Psychosis is just imitating them in a way that sounds half-assed and dull. The one exception to this is the decent "Born to Lose," which actually manages to kick up some dust and surpass the limitations of the music the same way Bathory did on their first few albums, but even then, there's nothing here that makes this worth your time, as it's barely worth the time I took to write about it. Forgettable. |
