Before this, I had only heard Vigilance's last album, Enter the Endless Abyss, which is a really good slab of blackened heavy metal (mostly due to the vocals). This self-titled EP brings them into more pure heavy metal territory, trading the vocal style for a clean one this time around, and the songs are sung in what I assume is the Slovene language.
I've been listening to this EP for a few weeks now and it's a hell of a lot of fun and just doesn't get old. Very heavy, speedy, energetic heavy metal that's both old school and modern, production-wise. The sound is very rich and really brings out the power of the songs. There's kind of an epic vibe that makes this sound so big, it's entertaining and, above all, addictive. There's no way in hell you can walk away from listening to his without having thrown your fist in the air—if not simply breaking out the air guitar or singing along, so infectious these songs are. If you like your heavy metal to actually be heavy, catchy and fast and, let's face it, over the top without being pretentious, Vigilance certainly fits that bill in its 25-minute length. I liked Enter the Endless Abyss, but this almost leaves it in the dust as far as I'm concerned.
