What do you think of when I say, "killer Swedish Death Metal"? There, that's what Carnal Savagery have made with their third album, Scent of Death. Nothing new or fancy here, just another band that worships before the fetid altars of Carnage, Gorement, Dismember, early Entombed, and even Autopsy with some of the riffing on "Scent of Flesh". I don't have too much more to say, as I could chuck a brick at Sweden and find a new Death Metal act in this vein (and possibly start an international incident), but these boys stand out by having better riffs and songs than most of the competition. Plenty of Swedish Death Metal acts out there think all you need is a guitar sound and some growls, but Carnal Savagery remember you need the same kind of unhinged savagery and dedication that the old masters had, and with this album, they prove to have all that in blood-drenched spades. Orthodoxy done right. |
