Sweden's Blakk Ledd has been around since 2014 but as of this writing doesn't have an entry at Metal Archives. I imagine that will soon change with the release of their album Heavy Metal Fans through Melodic Passion Records. The band name may be a little goofy, but the music is pure '80s heavy metal with just a hint of the melodic hard rock all heavier music grew out of. Ass-kicking riffs, rolling bass and high-pitched screams abound and every song expertly blends thundering rhythms with plenty of hooks. The first band that jumped into my head when listening to Heavy Metal Fans is Riot due to the speed and vocals, and a song like "Cold Trash Coming" could easily have fit on Thundersteel. Other songs have vocals that are echo-soaked, such as "Bad Sign" which brings me back to Witch Cross and their Fit for Fight album. Heavy Metal Fans, particularly the guitar tone, is so authentically '80s that it is a feast for the ears of any fan of "golden age" metal. The lyrics are somewhat simple, but that's just one more authentic touch from Blakk Ledd. If you cut your teeth on bands like Riot, Pretty Maids, Q5, Judas Priest, etc., you need to check out Heavy Metal Fans. |
