This one is interesting, because I remember Viogression from the old days. This was a band who hit during the big upswell of Death Metal bands in the '88-92 period, but they never got enough momentum to really keep going, and after a poorly-received second album in 1992 they vanished. Now we have a re-formed band (really vocalist Brian DeNeffe and some guys he recruited to fill out the roster) and a third full-length after a gap of thirty years. Sure, why not?
This was never a superfast band, despite the name. Viogression always had a slower, more Euro-death style, reminiscent of bands like Asphyx or Dismember. The Asphyx comparison was always helped along by DeNeffe's strong vocal resemblance to Martin Van Drunen—I mean he really sounds like him. That said, the songwriting on here is pretty standard, and not much really stands out. This is heavy Death Metal with some good riffing, but it's not much above average.
