Iron Flesh is a French death metal band that brings some different elements to their third album, Limb After Limb. They deliver the requisite bile and anger throughout the record, with plenty of speed in some areas but slow things down to a doom pacing in others, which is an interesting move. I couldn't help but pick up on the creepy guitars at the end of "Blessed Be the Creators," the female chanting vocals on "Sacrorum Profanationem," and the somber cellos on "Procession of Living Cadavers." I hand it to Iron Flesh, these are touches that have stuck with me long after the album has ended. On the flip side, apart from those novel (to my ears) elements, the rest of the album is a steady dose of bashing death metal with perhaps a slight blackened aspect to some of the atmosphere. I can't say I remember much about those parts of Limb After Limb as I didn't find the songs all that distinctive when the band was just playing and not experimenting with incongruous things. Death metal fans looking for something a little different would be the target audience Iron Flesh is aiming for and I say they are worth investigating if your tastes run in that direction. |
