Hot damn! This is some pretty awesome thrashy blackened death metal right here. Goatwhore bring about quite the evil little speedfest with this one. It's a bit up there in terms of length for the genre (I usually prefer those albums to be in the 30–40-minute range), but to there's nothing boring here and it really doesn't feel that long. The harsh rasps are mostly decipherable, aggressive and hate-filled and the vocalist does a great job complementing the music, adding much to the sonic onslaught. This is fast and brutal stuff, but most of it is always kind of catchy and even melodic (in a visceral, evil way) and I must mention "Victory if the Lightning of Destruction" as a favourite and a potential live crowd pleaser; a very energetic, kind of rocking song that really sticks out but nonetheless fitting very well with the rest of the album. Goatwhore don't let the foot off the accelerator and destroy everything in their path with this one. If I bothered doing a yearly "top albums" list, Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven would certainly be in it.
