Say, are you looking for some dirty, DIY old-school Death Metal? Well, look no further than Repression's latest EP, Portals to Twisted Frailties. Musically, this is somewhere between the demo days of Sadistic Intent and Autopsy, being simple and brutal in a way that recalls the era when Death Metal was first starting to take shape (certainly takes me back when I listen to this). There's nothing new or fancy on this, just hostile, ominous music that hits you straight in the groin, particularly with "Grave Future." Plenty of bands work to evoke the ancient sound of the genre's pioneers, and while Repression aren't setting the world on fire just yet, they certainly do a good job digging up their graves for one more violent onslaught. Promising. |
