There are a lot of bands playing old-school heavy metal these days. Some do it right, some not so much (or at all). Acid Blade are part of the former bunch. Power Dive is filled with catchy heavy metal that just sweeps you off your feet. The vocals are quite distinctive, clear and loud. That guy reminds me of some other singer whose name (and band) I can't remember and that's been driving me nuts for a few weeks. It's hard to resist singing along to those vocal melodies. The music on Power Dive has a bit of everything. It's flirting with epic metal at times and you'll also find some things borrowed from the likes of Maiden and Priest, especially their '70s and early '80s stuff. I like how they've opted for a rawer approach instead of polishing things up too much as it adds a lot of crunch and power to their sound. Acid Blade have something good going with this album, and hopefully they'll keep at it to feed those of us who enjoy a mix of old-school metal done well. |
