Hammerstar is a new band comprised of the former singer from Skullview and three guys from Phoenix, Arizona' Frankenshred. Their self-titled debut is crammed full of muscular riffs, beefy bottom end and clear, gravelly shouts that deliver some supremely crunchy US-flavored metal. There's very little give in Hammerstar's assault with one bruiser after another, guitars shredding and screams piercing. They slow things down to a doomy pace on "Rise Above the Skies," but the song still packs a punch. There are hooks to spare with some sure to stick in your head in no time. If crunchy US power/thrash metal in the vein of Flotsam and Jetsam, Metal Church, Reverend, and the like is your thing, you'll want to give Hammerstar a good, long listen. |
