Sometimes I see a band name and think, "well, this could be interesting," and I cross my fingers. It was a good bet with Germany's Pestlegion who present here some cavernous blasting black metal that's rooted in the second wave. Everything is clear yet has a very raw vibe, the shrieky vocals will scrape the wax out of your years when they're not downright haunting, and they know how to get melodic to keep things varied without compromising their take-no-prisoner style of black metal that oozes total destruction. The album has a few calmer moments, but for the most part this is pedal-to-the-metal black that has nothing to envy some of the classics of the genre. |
