Third full-length album for Rafal Bowman and his studio project Chaos Over Cosmos. I have been a fan of Bowman's guitar playing since the beginning, and that doesn't change here, as his attack is clean, sharp, and inventive, using his speed to create fluid melodic riffs and leads without getting wanky or noodling around. He always keeps the energy up, so his playing has an urgency and intensity that more shreddy performers usually don't have. Even on the longer songs he keeps things energetic and keeps changing it up so you never get bored.
This is the second time recording with vocalist KC Lyon, and again I don't really like his vocals that much. I feel like Bowman really needs a vocalist with a lot of versatility to keep up with his varied playing, and Lyon has a very one-note screech that veers uncomfortably into metalcore territory sometimes with all the effects on his voice. I don't feel like he hurts the music too much, but he's not helping either, and more than once I wished this was an instrumental album. (On the version I have, there are four bonus tracks, the last of which, "Asimov" is a pure instrumental and it is so good to hear it.)
So the playing is superlative, the songwriting is excellent, but the vocals let me down, keeping this from being as good as it could be.
