I see this band being listed as "Crossover Thrash," which back in my day meant a thrash band that incorporated punk/hardcore elements, but now seems to be used to mean "Death/Thrash" as there is certainly nothing punk about this band from Maryland. The riffs here are pure Thrash, with Death heaviness and bellowing Death vocals. I find this an almost UK-styled sound, reminding me of bands like Scythian. Fusing Thrash and Death together can lead to more technical, clean sounds, but here it can also lead to a distillation of both genres back to the more primal sounds of primitive metal like Celtic Frost or Lair of the Minotaur. This is not blazingly original, but it is pretty seriously kickass. |
