Can't say I've ever heard a metal band from the island nation of Bahrain before, and I certainly haven't covered one until now, but Ryth have made a hell of a first impression on me. They work in a very progressive vein of death metal similar to later Pestilence if they had more acoustic passages, with songs that are complex and often unorthodox in ways that would be surprising to find on a debut if not for the fact this band has existed since 2008. It's hard to name highlights since every song is thoughtful and engaging, but I will say that the clean vocals on "White Portrait" and "Facade," while nice enough and never distracting, don't really add a whole lot to their sound, and I can't help but wonder why they're used in the first place. Regardless, Deceptor Creator serves as a great introduction from a professional and challenging band hailing from a corner of the world we don't hear from all that often, and that should be more than enough reason to give them a shot. |
