Rienaus are a Finnish black metal act that's been going since 2009, and have the assortment of demos, full-lengths, compilations, splits, EPs, and even live albums you'd expect from a moderately active band of the type. Luciferille is their latest full-length along with my first exposure to their Christ-defiling sound, working in that raw yet melodic style that our scene is well known for. Speaking of which, the Finnish black metal scene has gotten pretty prolific over the years, with plenty of respected high-quality acts that represent it, so maybe I had my expectations too high when I heard this. I won't call them bad, as their sound is too professional and enjoyable to be so, but they do have a very bad tendency to play repetitive songs that all sound more or less the same. This is enjoyable while it's on, but it feels more like a vague mess of the same song rather than an album full of songs. |
