This is the sixth album by this Spanish band, who have been called a Spanish version of Behemoth and that's not far off the mark. Even the album cover is that style that was very big with Black/Death bands like 12 or 15 years ago. Makes me wonder if the lyrics in the booklet are printed at a Scary Angle in among pictures of the band members smeared with mud, or something similar. This has certain similarities to Behemoth back in their Black Metal days, without the extremely overproduced tightness of their later period. This is more melodic and has a more Black Metal feel than that. This reminds me more of stuff like Mortuary Drape or Averse Sefira than anything else—a very Euro feel of melody and the kinetic Death Metal-styled drumming on top. The production is really good, providing heaviness without losing the layers, and the whole is far more engaging and complex than I would have expected. |
