I never heard much from Rage despite them having like a gazillion albums and EPs out. Can't hear everything. I figured I'd check out this latest EP to see what they're up to. It contains three unreleased tracks from the Resurrection Day production as well as three bonus tracks which are live or acoustic renditions of some of their classics. I especially like the first three tracks, some fist-pumping, hard-hitting heavy/power metal that takes any flower out of the power metal, for those worried about that. The songs are heavy, powerful, even kind of raw yet melodic, and they stick out—they're the ones you're bound to remember once the EP is done playing. There's then an acoustic version of "A New Land." I'm really, really, reaaaaally not big on metal bands going acoustic, but this actually sounds pretty good. I wouldn't take an album full of that, but here in the middle of the EP, I find it fits well. "The Price of War 2.0" is a rerecording and I can't really say much about it versus the original as my knowledge of this band is limited to a couple of albums I heard nearly two decades ago. A live version of "Straight to Hell" is from a 2020 livestream. It's quite different from the other songs on the EP and it does have its charms, despite a more modern style—having a band of this calibre behind it doesn't hurt. All in all, a pretty cool EP. I don't know if Rage fans will satisfy their thirst with it, but being from the outside, I found it quite enjoyable overall.
