This band apparently started out as more of a shred project for Czech guitarist Martin Beck, but he departed last year and a band shakeup resulted in an almost entirely new lineup of players. I was not wild about the band name, but this is a catchy, proficient display of glossy, polished metal. Veteran players like guitarist Marcos Rodriguez and vocalist Craig Cairns make this a highly pro-sounding recording, even if the songwriting is not always up to the task. The opening title cut is a powerful workout in Firewind-styled, fist-pumping metal, as are other strong tracks like "Fallen Angel" and "Queen of Light," but some tracks are weaker, and even if they sound good, they don't have quite enough substance under the flash. Still, this is a very enjoyable album, and this band deserves attention. |
