Second full-length album for these Dutch death metallers, and the first thing that sticks out is how dark the album sounds, flirting with a blackened vibe without really getting there. A lot of this stuff is slow and crushing, the kind of soundtrack that sounds like you're about to get seriously fucked for getting in those woods alone at night. Chilling at times. The vocals are more on the raspy side than is common in death metal and while they don't vary much, they do add to the overall malevolent vibe that can be felt throughout the album. The faster parts aren't insanely fast, kind of quiet actually, which blends well with the slower, haunting parts. I can't say any song stood out while listening to the album, but the haunting and chilling atmosphere sure as hell sticks around long after the album has finished. |
