This is a melodic Black Metal band with a definite influence from bands of the aughts, which I guess we are going to have to recognize as a definite period and style that has bands now emerging that take inspiration from it. I hear some mid-period Satyricon, Darkthrone, and other, less well-known bands like Averse Sefira or Keep of Kalessin. The riffs and the guitar sound are good—good enough to keep me listening—even if the songwriting is pretty rote, and the band rarely rises above their influences save for a few melodic flourishes here and there that jump out and show this band has chops to do more than they are doing. This is a decent debut, but maybe this band could be something more. |
