This album features a kind of orthodox, second wave sound that I heard a lot of like 15-20 years ago, with a murky recording job, riffs that are more direct than tremolo blurring, and a lot of atmosphere. Not a million miles removed from stuff like Lunar Aurora or Ceremonial Castings, but without the speed that would imply. This is much more about riff and mood than about velocity, and while it's not doing anything new (in fact it is studiously avoiding that) it draws me in with the ritualistic riffs and eerie keyboard overlays. Simple stuff, but it works.
