I class this as just Heavy Metal, because the music is that—pretty straight-up and direct melodic stuff—but you might be caught off guard by the vocals of everything-but-the-drummer Laurence Kerbov, who sometimes employs a harsh, raspy approach, most notably on the opening track, which might cause you to wonder just what kind of album this is. The rest of the time he sings clean, but it's kind of a toss-up which one is better, as neither of them are really good. The music here shows some flashes of inspiration, and the guitar work is solid, with some standout leads and some very hooky riffs. The weak recording job hurts this, as do the lackluster vocal efforts. Kerbov needs to find a real singer, because his voice is holding this back. |
