Review

This is a reissue of Animalize's first mini-album from 2020, containing three songs sung in English and two in French. This is really a throwback to 40 years ago. Very energetic, raw and abrasive heavy metal, it's impossible to listen to this and not have some part of your body moving. I'm hearing a lot of influences from the likes of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden in there, especially the guitars, though this is by no means a soundalike type of band. Some guitar passages even remind me of early Mötley Crüe, and in terms of style, it's closer to that type of party-ish, fun, singalong heavy metal (rest assured, there's no glam here). The vocalist reminds me a little of Sanhedrin's Erica Stoltz, especially on "Sous l'oeil du charognard" where the vocal lines remind me of what Erica did on a Sanhedrin song whose name I forget. I was surprised to find out that the singer is a guy as his voice made me think these were female vocals (as evidenced by my previous comparison); his style is high pitched and powerful, aggressive yet melodic, a perfect fit for the music. Bottom line, this is a lot of fun. It's not original, but when it's this well done, I don't care.
