Let the Dead Not Lose Hope is the second album from this Polish band going by the name of Hellhaim. Their style has an '80s heavy metal base with straight ahead riffing and lots of mid-paced songs that are shot through with a thick streak of early punk-fueled thrash. The singing is wild and gritty but in tune and clear enough for the most part, so you can make out the lyrics fairly easily. Several different influences crossed my mind as I listened to Let the Dead Not Lose Hope and what seemed to stick was if Motörhead backed up Alice Cooper on covers of early Venom and Metallica. The songwriting isn't overly memorable, but some choruses like "Devilin" and "Virus" have a bit of staying power. Hellhaim aren't going to wow you with innovation, technicality, or ear worms, but if you like your metal on the rambunctious side, you can bang your head to Let the Dead Not Lose Hope. |
