Combat Shock are a Russian crossover thrash act that's been around since 2015, and despite what the album title implies, their debut full-length, Everything Goes Wrong, is actually very good. By the time you hear the first riffs of "Power Abuse", you'll be wondering if you're listening to Power Trip by mistake, as that's clearly the base of Combat Shock's sound. It has attitude, it has riffs, and it has no interest in pushing the envelope, all things you really need to be a strong crossover type band. Sure, you could basically write them off as the world's greatest Power Trip cover band, but with the real Power Trip being in limbo after the tragic loss of Riley Gail, I think it's great that bands like Combat Shock have come forward to continue their legacy, especially when they can do it this well in under a half an hour. A volatile dynamite stick of an album, great stuff. |
