This is part of a double release for Ulthar, with the companion album, Helionomicon, being released the same day. I have not heard anything from this band since 2020's Providence, and I remember it being good, but not great. This album is much more straight Death Metal, with a definite line of descent from the mighty Angelcorpse: fast, chaotic, a little sloppy. The production is not the super-clear, clickety-clickety kind of Death Metal sound, but a much fuller, more organic, and murkier recording. I like the underground feel this gives it, and I like how the songwriting is varied without being technical, so there is always something interesting going on. Overall this is definitely a step up from their past work. |
