Necrovation fell off the map several years ago after releasing their second album in 2012, and this 2-track EP is sign that they’re back. I’ve never heard them before, so I can’t tell how this compares to their other stuff. This is solid death metal, very heavy—crushingly so at times—with some dark melodies to lighten the mood a little bit despite said melodies giving out a creepy, haunting vibe. This is no doubt old-school Swedish death metal, but their approach to incorporating the more melodic parts reminds me of The Chasm at times. The raspy growls are very discreet and that’s just perfect here, though I guess you can forget about deciphering the lyrics. I can’t say anything stuck with me after it’s over, but I found myself hitting play repeatedly. I definitely wouldn’t mind a full-length album in the same vein. |
