I don’t normally bother with EPs, but when I heard this band, I was impressed enough to bother. Dolmen Gate are a Portuguese band with their first proper release of crunching Epic Metal. This is definitely meant to be in the tradition of Warlord, Manowar, Battleroar and Wotan. You get a rolling, headbanging riff style and the powerful midrange vocals of frontwoman "Ana," who reminds me more than a bit of Warlord’s Jack Rucker. There are just two songs here, since the opening title track is a nothing instrumental, but the real songs are both rock-solid, and so this does a good job of making me want a full-length album. A band to watch. |
