Fuckin Death Metal. With a band name that sounds kind of like a joke, I was not sure what to expect, but this is some seriously subterranean shit. There’s nothing nice or clean or polished about this debut, just thugging death riffs and a filth-encrusted production job that makes this sound like it was recorded in a torture chamber—massive echo effects and brutal heaviness galore. This is a galloping, chugging, gnarly-assed Death Metal album that sounds like it was dug out of the frozen ground in 1992. That said, the songwriting is surprisingly varied, with a lot of time changes and labyrinthine song structures that never do quite what you expect, unless you expect them to just fucking kill. Great shit. |
