Rapid is definitely the right name for this band as this first EP (longer than many full-lengths when you count the bonus tracks on this reissue) is a nice little speedfest of dirty blackened speed metal with a punk attitude. On my first listen I went, "what the fuck is going on here?" Rapid's approach is not polished in any way, shape or form; it's straightforward, basic, old-school metal that blazes through the speakers and takes no prisoners. The vocals remind me a bit of KAT (Poland) on 666, kind of cavernous at times and really not trying to sound pretty, just screaming away and keeping up with the chaotic musical onslaught that's all over the place. It's like you've put Motörhead, Hellhammer, early KAT and early German thrash like Sodom and Kreator in a blender. It's completely messed up and, when you're in the right mood, it's a hell of a lot of fun. |
