Oblivion Throne is a band out of North Carolina and Voidgazer is a four-song EP (well, three songs and an intro) released in 2023 that follows their 2022 debut album, Marauder, which I haven't heard. Metal Archives lists them as speed/thrash metal and they do tend to play fast with a solid helping of thrash riffing but, to me, the songs here sound more like raucous epic metal. The vocals are layered with echo and with titles like "Lust for Steel" and "Souls Ensnared," the EP has that epic vibe. "Voidgazer" has the thrashiest riffing and near-extreme vocals, almost like early Bathory, but the other songs are more in the early Omen vein. There's nothing amazing on Voidgazer but it will try to kick your ass for its entire 20+ minute running time. Grab a copy if you want your epic metal to have the grit, grime, and blood of recent battle all over it. |
