All Hail the Night is an EP from North Carolina's All Hell and follows their last full-length, The Witch's Grail, from 2019. Not sure why they went with an EP this time but regardless, here it is. As was the case with the last album of theirs I reviewed (2017's The Grave Alchemist), All Hell put more "black" into their black/thrash than their peers, namely the vocals, which are a harsh rasp. The music is pure speed/thrash though and, in a departure from the pack, it's a beefy, bass-heavy sound with some great sounding drum work. The songwriting is generic, though; entertaining enough when on, but other than the chorus on "Black Leather Wings," I didn't find much that stuck in my head even after several listens. All Hail the Night is OK, and if you live and breathe black/thrash perhaps a bit better, but not a lot different from much of the music in this subgenre currently available. |
